The Ultraviolet Future

We are embarking on an ultraviolet future.
One that will eventually play a role in our business and in the way we communicate and connect—instantly. Where an invisible wave on energy that will connect us. It's simple, light-waves. Specifically, ultraviolet waves of energy.

Before you go any further, remember, this is a Sunday zoom. So sit back and chill out, and keep an open mind when reading this post. Do you remember when the remote controller added magic to the television? (If you're younger than 20 then probably not.) It was and still is amazing, we never have to get up to turn the knob anymore, we send out numbers and press buttons that command our cable tv menus. And most recently, light waves have allowed us swing through a virtual game of golf with our Nintendo Wiimotes and infrared tv sensors. That same principle of using the energy from light is being developed into a huge idea for the future.

Light waves like ultraviolet can carry way more energy and information than infrared light and even wifi signals. And the best part about light waves like ultraviolet, they can go through walls.

Imagine a future where connectivity becomes elevated. And where wires, dishes, delays and buffering becomes extinct. And information and data gets transferred even faster—without fail.

I was considering keeping this experience a secret, but then I felt guilty.

Most career-minded people and small business owners are constantly looking for the next breakthrough. How many people can you name who aren't?

Many months ago I embarked on a fantastic training seminar at Gap International.

SInce my first intro course, which spanned more than 18 intense hours of training over a weekend, I can honestly say that I have been more motivated and focused than ever. And as a result, my company and team has been better because of it.

Today I'm off to another, smaller, yet equally valuable event held at Gap International in Philadelphia.

I know I'll be better because of it. I hope you and your organization will learn a little about them, even pass it along to your team.

When you're producing something that's above the norm, not easy, even risky, you might end up hitting a small glitch while preparing your idea for the 'big' meeting. It happens, don't freak out.

On the flip side, when you hit that bump while you're producing the norm, the standard, the I've seen those before' kind of work—it's a whole other ball game. The bump comes unexpectedly. It's surprising. It raises questions.

Both bumps require you to push off a deliverable for a day or so, but only one of them will be viewed more acceptable to your client.

Thinking outside of the category—Netflix

Chances are you're not in charge of running an entertainment brand or service. But if you're a smaller or newer brand to your category then perhaps you want to tune into this one.

I constantly hear Netflix subscribers saying the following words, "I love my Netflix."

Netflix has developed into a real category challenger within the television and entertainment industry. They've succeeded by approaching things in a way that's 'outside of the category' and the normal or typical approach or 'models' within the industry.

Maybe that's why their stock tripled in the last year. They aren't fighting against the typical culture or an older organization nor are they stuck to their own habit. They just go for it. And as a result, we see more potential in what they can achieve.

Being small(er) and more nimble allows you the opportunity to challenge the category by thinking outside of the category. What if you adopted a similar way? What if you tried to 'get there first'? I bet you'll discover some breakthroughs along the way.

Oh, and I too love my Netflix.
