Funding isn't the only way

I've been working on several new clients, projects and ventures recently. Then just today (while in Mexico City) I read this post from Seth Godin. And let me tell you, I totally agree (you should too).

Perhaps you're thinking that you need money to make your new idea or business plan come to life. If you are thinking this way, then perhaps you might try thinking the opposite.

No jokes from yesterday

The best talk show writers write more than 30 jokes a day. Each has to be good. Once trimmed, the best 10 might be used that night on the show. There's just one catch—no jokes from yesterday. One it's killed, it's killed. Gone.

Save your breath. Move on.

Comedy like presenting ideas can be tough. Comedy a constantly evolving discussion around the hilarity of humanity. How do the writers get there everyday? Here are some insights that just might help you deliver more ideas everyday.

The most common jokes and topics are timeless. The marriage jokes. The president jokes. The mundane, everday observational jokes. We're all used to them like apple pie. If the comedian nails a new approach to tackling these age-old topics we applaud him. On the other hand you have current or topical jokes to keep it fresh. Relevant. These jokes have equal familiarity but less comparison. It's wide open.

So no matter what you're delivering or producing each day in this business—ask yourself this, can you nail 30 jokes or ideas in a day? Why not? There's so much to pull from. And when you're on stage performing, are you telling the same old joke or pitching a new one?

What else do you have? You need many of them.

After you figure that out (most of you already have by now), you're going to then start to wonder how you get credit for your talents. The answer is easy—you do it again the next day, and the day after that. Repetition is the key.
